Elaboração de Procedimento Operacional Padrão para descarte de medicamentos na atenção primária à saúde do município de Currais Novos-RN

Abstract

The disposal of expired and / or out-of-use medications is a problem for society, considering inadequate disposal, consequently, damage to the population and environment in which they live due to chemical residues, which need different handling as well as treatment adequate. Thereby, this study aimed to collect and systematize information for the development of a Standard Operating Procedure for the disposal of expired and / or out-of-use drugs in primary health care in Currais Novos-RN. Therefore, the reality of the service was directly observed and the Brazilian legislation relevant to the topic was analyzed, after which the information collected was compiled and systematized, resulting in two technical products, namely: 1 Standard Operating Procedure for basic health units and 1 Standard Operating Procedure for the Pharmaceutical Supply Center. It appears that these documents have the potential to contribute to the process of properly disposing of expired and / or out-of-use medications and as a subsidy for planning activities to train health professionals and make the population aware of the topic in the context in question, constituting, finally, in health innovation in the area of primary health care in the municipality.
