Percepções das pessoas analfabetas sobre as dimensões da educação, da informação e da biblioteca pública

Analfabetismo no Brasil

O analfabetismo é uma questão social que atinge parte da população brasileira, sendo essas pessoas colocadas à margem da sociedade e fazendo-as sofrer com problemas de ordem econômica, educacional e informacional. Esse cenário distancia esse grupo do ambiente da biblioteca, em especial, da biblioteca pública, que, enquanto espaços públicos e sociais têm o dever de incluir e acolher os diversos grupos existentes na sociedade. Este trabalho tem como objetivo geral investigar as relações de pessoas analfabetas residentes no Rio Grande do Norte com a Educação, a Informação e as Bibliotecas Públicas. Dentre os objetivos específicos estão: identificar o perfil de pessoas analfabetas e a sua relação com o acesso à educação e à informação; verificar a existência ou não de impedimentos das pessoas analfabetas com os usos da biblioteca pública; demonstrar as percepções dessas pessoas sobre como a biblioteca pública poderia contribuir para suas vidas e comunidades. Foram mobilizados os conceitos de analfabetismo, analfabeto, analfabetismo funcional, alfabetização e letramento, identificando quem são os sujeitos afetados e as causas e consequências desse processo na sociedade, além de sua relação com a biblioteca pública. Também se discutiu a função social das bibliotecas e seu papel no combate ao analfabetismo. A temática é relevante e merece mais contribuições, pois é pouco discutida no campo da Biblioteconomia e da Ciência da Informação. Para a realização desta pesquisa exploratória e qualitativa, utilizou-se o método da história de vida, por meio de entrevistas semiestruturadas com onze participantes. As entrevistas foram organizadas em quatro blocos temáticos, totalizando trinta e quatro perguntas. Fica evidente que o perfil da pessoa analfabeta apresenta desdobramentos na renda, na profissão e até no pertencimento étnico-racial. Percebe-se que a percepção da pessoa analfabeta sobre a Biblioteca Pública se mistura ao conceito de Biblioteca Escolar, e que, por não serem próximas deste ambiente, têm dificuldade em idealizá-lo. A biblioteca no imaginário das pessoas entrevistadas acaba sendo associada ao livro e a leitura da palavra escrita, distante delas, no entanto, acredita-se que as bibliotecas possam ser efetivamente democráticas e inclusivas, quando construídas coletivamente.

Illiteracy is a social quest that affects part of the Brazilian population, being those people placed on the margins of society, facing economic, educational and informational quests. This scenario distances this group from the library environment, especially from the public library, which, as a public and social space, must include and accommodate the various groups existing in society. The general objective of this work is to investigate the relationships of illiterate people residing in Rio Grande do Norte with Education, Information and Public Libraries. Among the specific objectives are: identify the profile of illiterate people and their relationship with access to education and information; Verify the existence or absence of impediments of illiterate people in the uses of the public library; Demonstrate the perceptions of illiterate people of how a public library could contribute to life and the community. We mobilized the concepts of illiteracy, illiteracy, functional illiteracy, literacy and literacy, identifying that only the subjects affected and the causes and consequences of the process in society, apart from their relationship with the public library. The social function of libraries and their role in combating illiteracy was also discussed. The topic is relevant and deserves more contributions, because it has hardly been discussed in Library Science and Information Science. To carry out this exploratory and qualitative research, the life history method was used, through a semi-structured interview with eleven people. The interview has four thematic blocks and a total of three and four questions. It is evident that the profile of the illiterate person presents obvious differences in performance, profession and non-ethnic-racial belonging. It is clear that the illiterate people's perception of the Public Library is mixed with the concept of the School Library, and that, because we are not close to this environment, it is difficult to idealize it. The library in the imagination of the people interviewed ends up being associated with the book and the reading of the written word, far from them, however, it is believed that libraries can be effectively democratic and inclusive, when built collectively.
