Monitoring water quality parameters during and after the purification process is mandatory for all industries that use water in production processes. The Internet of Things (IoT) is one of the emerging technologies in the field of Industry 4.0 or Advanced Manufacturing. The implementation of IoT devices in industrial processes makes it possible to acquire data, previously non-existent, from processes and store this data in cloud infrastructure via the Internet. This work presents the design and development of an IoT device to generate and provide the status of a purified water production process in pharmaceutical industry. The device uses non-invasive current and discrete sensors to capture data. In addition, the IoT device connects to the network and sends the data via MQTT protocol to the customer’s cloud storage infrastructure. The steps of requirements gathering, circuit specification, PCB design, software development and device implantation in the industrial plant are described in this work.
