The research also relates the concepts of memory, information, and preservation, presents strategies for the safeguarding of digital documents, and outlines the necessary requirements to ensure the effectiveness of digital preservation. The central problematization that guides the research is: "what is the relevance, the main strategies, and the challenges of digital preservation in the contemporary context, according to specialized literature?" The general objective of this research is to understand the importance of digital preservation in contemporary times, exploring its relationship with the concepts of memory and information. The specific objectives include: establishing the relationship between information, memory, and preservation; conceptualizing digital preservation and presenting the strategies used for its implementation; identifying and presenting the main challenges faced in contemporary times. The research used the inductive method, with a qualitative approach, characterizing it as exploratory research. The bibliographic research technique was used based on productions selected from the Reference Database of Articles in Information Science Journals, Oasisbr, the Institutional Repository of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte, and the physical collections of BCZM, in order to compose the theoretical framework. As a result, digital preservation has proven to be a strategic necessity in memory institutions, being a fundamental aspect to ensure continuous access to information and memory in the long term.
