In tinnitus animal models, hyperactivity and increased synchrony are reported in the dorsal cochlear nucleus, inferior colliculus, medial geniculate nucleus and the primary auditory cortex. However, which neuronal classes in the primary auditory cortex (A1) are more affected by noise-exposure remains to be described. A1 is a putative target for treatments involving neuronal activity modulation.
