For this, it was used annual data from a time series from 1913 to 2022, totaling 110 years. With the data, descriptive statistics were applied, with measures of position and dispersion, probability and return time, being possible to identify the variability of rainfall within the locality. Among the main results, we highlight that in Caicó-RN the mean and median values were approximately 650 millimeters of annual rainfall, which classifies the municipality as semi-arid according to SUDENE, which has as a criterion, the quota of ≥ 800 millimeters annually. The results showed that the interannual rainfall variability is very high, with the coefficient of variation higher than 40%. The minimum rainfall value registered for the data series, was 102.3 millimeters annually, showing that in Caicó-RN, in the year 1996 the rainfall corresponded to a desert climate value. The maximum rainfall value recorded, was 1560.5 millimeters annually in the year 1974, presenting a positive average deviation of 897.5 millimeters. The value class that presented the highest probability of occurrence was the 588.3 - 709.8 millimeters, thus, having the shortest return time of 5 years.
