Orientador: Dr. Roberto Airon Silva. 2024. 210f. Dissertação (Mestrado Profissional em Ensino de História - Profhistoria) - Centro de Ciências Humanas, Letras e Artes, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2024.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/62592This master's research aimed to present the history of the emergence of the Guarapes neighborhood through the actions of students in History classes in an experience with oral history conveyed through interactive activities with students, interviews with community residents and the production of teaching materials. In this way, it serves as a guide to work on historical knowledge and art production which can be used by Basic Education teachers. We sought to identify the various difficulties existing in the Guarapes community that interfere with the teaching and learning process at the school Francisco de Assis Varela Cavalcante. We aimed to understand the origins of these residents as well as their sources of economic survival to assist in pedagogical practices developed in History classes. By knowing the community, we can contribute to the permanence of students in school and facilitate the teaching and learning process. To make students active participants, we used the following practice: students interviewed residents and produced a poetic letter about the history of the neighborhood and created a letter from the information gathered in the interviews. To establish a framework for understanding the responses of the first residents, students wrote an essay describing “Their life in Guarapes” the neighborhood where they live and study. The strategies were developed together with 9th-grade students over the course of a school year. Walks through the community, visits to the oldest residents and conversations with community leaders were conducted, in which place were discussed the virtues and challenges of living in a community forgotten by constituted powers. The proposed teaching material was produced during visits, dialogues and interviews with residents. It takes the form of a digital book (eBook) which is included in the appendices of this dissertation and a guide for those who wish to teach history through artistic production such as poetry. Using the poetic form, a play was written titled “Art Tells Guarapes”. The text of the play includes scene directions as well as various staging instructions. Such effort was made so that History teacher who do not have experience in theater production can stage the play. Another characteristic of the proposed work is its simplified language through the use of cordel literature style. The language structure used in the text can easily enable any educator to adapt it to represent another marginalized community. Thus, the play “Art Tells Guarapes” can become “Art Tells Any Community”and can fit the context of marginalized communities in many brazilian cities.
