This work seeks to investigate whether the collective practices related to the composition and basic arrangement can offer significant advances in the musical learning, stimulating the development of the participants. It aims to present activities related to the practices of composition and musical arrangement, with a view to foment the development and the musical emancipation of the researched students. The theoretical foundation is the reflection and thinking of authors who deal with collective musical practices such as: Grossi (2009), Pinto (2005), Passos (2005); and composition as: Howard (1991). The research bases on a qualitative method and is classified as an action research. We used semi-structured interviews and activities in graded processes that allowed students to acquire practical experiences based on the elaboration of two compositions for data collection. The obtained results presented experiences lived through activities related to the elaboration of composition and arrangement showing a considerable performance in the independence and mastery of theoretical contents that were used in the practice.
