With this research we have as general aim to analyze the phenomenon of mental illness in the work environment of a public university in Rio Grande do Norte and as specific aims to identify how the experience of mental illness occurred; to know the ways of coping with the disease used in the context of work and propose a technical product for the prevention of illness or recovery of the sick servant. This is a descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative approach. Initially the researcher carried out a survey of the absences whose main codes were Group F (Mental and Behavioral Disorders) in the period 2012-2019, obtained in the Federal Public Administration System. Then, she conducted semi-structured interviews with the selected participants on the relationships between their health-disease process and their work. She used thematic content analysis for the elaboration of the results, from which the following analysis categories emerged: 1. Work conditions and organization (subdivided into the subcategories: 1.1 Interpersonal relationships and 1.2 Workload) and 2. Life- work (subdivided into 2.1 Home-work interface and aspects of the individual and 2.2 Social support / reception and ways of coping). As a result of this research we have a manual for the operative group entitled "Healthy mind at work", with the aim of preventing mental illness of the worker and favoring the recovery of health.
