For this, it is necessary that they have skills and informational abilities for their research in legal sources achieves their objective, as well as using organization at the moment of creation, acquisition, storage, distribution and use of the information, with the goal of correctly using the informational asset and being competitive in their field area. To this end, one of the organization's tools is information management, which can be applied in favor of all legal professionals and in any of the three branches of the Brazilian democratic state, as well as in law firms. Its application should have a team of information professionals, including librarians, who have their academic education aimed at handling information. The present work has the general objective to demonstrate the importance of implementing the management of legal information for lawyers and law firms. The specific objectives are: a) conceptualize and identify the types of documents and legal information; b) observe which are the sources of legal information, including on the internet; c) analyze the relationship between the lawyer and information and between the librarian and the legal area; and d) understand how the practical cases of information management in law firms occur. This is a qualitative research, exploratory nature, with data collection having been done exclusively through bibliographic research. The research results were positive, bearing in mind the achievement of all the proposed initial goals. Finally, it was possible to conclude that the implementation of legal information management for lawyers and/or law firms is beneficial for legal professionals, since it contributes to the elaboration of pleadings, helping to the decision-making process.
