Objective: to identify and synthesize scientific evidence on the use of ultrasound, modes A and B, to assess body composition in athletes, also seeking to identify how ultrasound has been used to describe body composition and which ultrasound mode has been more used. Methodology: the strategy Population, Concept, and Context, Population: athletes, Concept: use of ultrasound to assess body composition, Context: world literature was used. The search for articles for this review was carried out in the Pubmed database using the keywords "athletes", "ultrasound" and "body composition" together with the Boolean operator “and” between them. All search results were selected, read, and sorted, leaving the studies that would follow for the review. Results: 613 articles were found in Pubmed, of which 52 were selected and, after complete reading, 39 articles were included.
