This was a quantitative, documental and cross-sectional research, in which an instrument was used to collect data from individual record sheets of cases of Hospitalized Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) from patients in the municipality of Caicó that flourished admitted to the Telecila Freitas Fontes State Hospital, due to COVID-19. The final sample comprised 134 eligible patients who died. Data were analyzed using the statistical program Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 20.0, considering frequencies, measures of the center of distribution and its variability for descriptive analysis. To verify the normality of the data, use the Shapiro-Wilk test. The study resulted in a predominance of females (57.2%), elderly with a median of 71.00 years, white color/race (69.8%), with incomplete primary education (14.2%), residing in the urban area (97.8%), they had paid work (23.1%) and were retired (22.4%). Among the most frequent clinical manifestations, O2 saturation < 95% (73.9%) and dyspnea (67.9%) and comorbidity with chronic cardiovascular disease (54.5%) stand out. Only 17.9% of patients received the vaccine against COVID-19, 47.8% required invasive ventilatory support. The typical result for COVID on chest CT scan was present in 55.2% of patients. Hospitalization in the Intensive Care Unit corresponded to 64.9%. The diagnosis through the collection of nasopharyngeal pain represented 67.2%. Between the first symptom and death, a median of 17.5 days was obtained; between the first symptom and hospitalization, a median of 8 days; and between the date of hospitalization and death, a median of 10 days.
