Therefore, this study investigates the Política Nacional de Vigilância em Saúde, considering its potential to address these challenges, with the aim of identifying the main management challenges of health surveillance policy in the municipality of Santa Cruz/RN. To achieve this, it was necessary to understand the structure of health surveillance in the studied municipality, evaluate the coping strategies developed by the health surveillance management, and investigate the role of management in the face of the challenges of the Política Nacional de Vigilância em Saúde. A quantitative and qualitative exploratory research was conducted with the health surveillance coordinators in the municipality of Santa Cruz/RN. The research involved 5 participants, and data were collected through self-administered questionnaires. The findings reveal vulnerabilities in the management of this policy at the municipal level, which are compounded by the challenges inherent in the current health surveillance model.
