In view of this, the need for alternatives for burial, demanded by the cemeteries; and also to innovate the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) inherent to the handling of corpse. In this, this work has as main objective to carry out a comparative analysis of the changes in the standard operating procedures of the funeral service in Brazilian cemeteries, in order to understand a contemporary problematic perspective. Therefore, the methodology developed was, according to Gil (2008), exploratory research, in order to provide an overview of the topic. With the study carried out, changes were pointed out in the face of the request for handling the corpse of COVID-19. In addition, it was identified that cemeteries have already operated in disagreement with CONAMA Resolution No. 335 of 2003, however, the increase in deaths by the pandemic caused by the new coronavirus intensified the environmental problems already caused by this activity. Regarding environmental problems, according to Cavalcante (2022), necrochorume, from the decomposition of corpses, is the main responsible for the contamination of soil and water resources Finally, as environmental protection measures, it is essential to protect environmental projects from legislation, following the steps for the environment; and the operation following the SOPs.
