Tese (Doutorado em Estudos da Linguagem) - Centro de Ciências Humanas, Letras e Artes, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2025.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/63929As a general aim, this research proposes to understand, through the enunciative will of students from a public higher education institution, how the participation of libraries and reading are conceived in their life trajectories and how these can have an impact on the socio-historical process of constructing and reconstructing the self, its positions as a being and its socio-discourse identities. To this end, the idea that reading is a responsivedialogical experience, and the library as a hetero-discursive space-time of excellence, has been used as a basis. In this way, we seek theoretical and methodological grounding in the Bakhtinian circle, specifically in the concepts of concrete statement, ideological sign, dialogical relations, social voices, alterity, and ethical act. Therefore, it is a qualitativeinterpretive research, guided by the evidentiary paradigm (GINZBURG, 1989), in which discursive genres, interviews and socio-economic questionnaires were used to prepare the corpus of analysis. In addition, this work finds a place in the field of Applied Linguistics, especially in terms of its ethical and political engagement with people who experience social practices (MOITA LOPES, 2006); RAJAGOPALAN, 2006) involved in the object of our study, through their commitment to the discussion of problems related to the "deprivation" suffered by the subjects (ROJO, 2006), since here it assumes the responsibility of making visible and intelligible the meanings coming from the "voices of the South" (MOITA LOPES, 2006), that is the testimonies of ordinary readers - ordinary people that had their words historically been silenced, ignored and despised because they are women, because they are poor, because they are LGBTQIAPN+ people. Therefore, a detailed analysis of the biographical paths that led the subjects to encounter the world of written culture and libraries, highlighting not only the values they attribute to these practices and spaces, but also the positions and voices that emanate from their statements. The results reveal the formation of identities marked by a heterogeneity of discourses, showing that becoming only happens through the sum of our participatory, responsive, and responsible acts in different ideological spheres. Furthermore, it leads us to understand reading and libraries as favorable places for discovering and experimenting with values, feelings, ideas, beliefs, in short, ideological identity positions.pt-BRAcesso AbertoBibliotecaPrática dialógica de leituraVozes sociaisLinguística aplicadaEm meio a um mar de vozes sociais: o papel das bibliotecas e da experiência dialógica da leitura na formação das identidades de jovens universitáriosdoctoralThesisLINGUISTICA, LETRAS E ARTES::LINGUISTICA
