Traditionally, this stage has been carried out using empirical knowledge, which makes it one of the most responsible for pathologies in buildings. With increasing demands for quality, this scenario began to change, driven by the creation of ABNT NBR 9575 - Waterproofing: Selection and Project, which is a reference for minimum requirements for waterproofing systems. However, despite the advances and updates of the standard, the latest in 2010, there is still a significant gap in the proper selection of the waterproofing method. Therefore, this work was developed with the aim of presenting suggestions to fill this gap, by systematizing the technical and situational criteria that should be considered when selecting a waterproofing system, facilitating decision-making and improving the performance and durability of buildings.
