That approach engages the novel genre in the classroom, contrasting with the traditional method of reducing literary texts to syn- tactic and morphological analysis. Furthermore, this study aims to cultivate reading habits among students and diminish the perceived complexity of Machado de Assis’s writings in an engaging manner, thereby establishing connections between learning and entertainment. The research method employed is qualitative, grounded in prior experiences introducing Machado de Assis’s works to upper primary classes, alongside studies on the short story genre, historical production context, and teaching– learning processes.
