A cross-sectional study with adolescents who have recently given birth (13 to 19 years old). Nutritional status of pregnant adolescents was studied using the body mass index and gestational weight gain; socioeconomic characteristics and its relation to the birth weight of the neonate. The analyzes were performed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS), considering a value of p <0.05. In this work, 97 adolescents aged 18 ± 2.9 years were evaluated. The results were: IMC of eutrophy before and at the end of gestation, with a weight of 10.4±4.8 kg; newborns with a mean weight, cephalic perimeter, and age-appropriate length. Among socioeconomic variables, the marital status, prenatal consultations, previous pregnancies, and type of type of birth delivery presented significant associations with weight. However, there wasn't a statistical ratio to justify the increase of weight in the gestation period. The results attested the importance of anthropometry in the nutritional evaluation and necessity of standardization for this classification aimed at adolescent pregnant women, besides understanding pregnancy in adolescence as a complexity of risk factors, alsoevaluating socioeconomic and obstetric variables, that may be considered factors of risk in the anthropometric nutritional status and neonate's healthAttribution 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/br/Gravidez na adolescênciaEstado nutricionalPeso ao nascerTeenage pregnancyCondição materna de adolescentes e impacto no peso do neonatoAdolescent maternal condition and impactson the weight of the newbornarticlehttps://doi.org/10.18378/rebes.v9i1.6172
