In order to break with the traditional teaching of the Portuguese language, this project has, as its main point, the interest of a group of students of the 9th year at Elementary school to prepare themselves for the Federal Institute of Education, Science and Technology of Rio Grande do Norte (IFRN) selection process. In additional time, those originally public-school students attend to a private course in Santo Antônio city, located in the countryside of Rio Grande do Norte. This intervention project is theoretical and methodologically founded on four main pillars: the dialogical conception of language (BAKHTIN [1952-1953] 2011; [1929] 2009); the literacy studies (KLEIMAN, 1995; STREET [1995] 2014); the Applied Linguistics (MOITA LOPES, 2006, 2009). The data were generated throughout the 2015 school year by means of a literacy project (KLEIMAN, 2000) understood as didactic model (TINOCO, 2008). Some questions guided the activities developed. The questions are: how to resignify the Portuguese classes as regards the appropriation of the argumentative discourse? What specific writing learning situations might favor this appropriation? What are the marks that signalize the improvement of the argumentative chain in the texts produced by the students? In this process, texts from different genres were written (and rewritten), such as letters, invitations, and opinion articles. These pieces of writing led the participants to perform different activities, being one of them of special relevance to the group: an oriented visit to IFRN. In addition, students and teacher had a regulated debate with the participation of agents external to the course and, based on the debate, other texts of the argumentative order were produced. The data analysis show that these writing practices, developed in a collaborative way, prepared the students to face the IFRN’s selection exam, therefore, being the reason why there was a significant amount of students in the group approved in it. Another achievement yet even more important is the understanding that arguing is a crucial technique for daily demands. Therefore, for this reason, knowing how to argue provides the citizen with the ability to answer with more autonomy to the problems that life in society imposes us.Acesso AbertoProjeto de letramentoEnsino-aprendizagem de escritaArgumentaçãoArgumentAÇÃO via projeto de letramentomasterThesisCNPQ::LINGUISTICA, LETRAS E ARTES::LETRAS
