This phenomenon represents a serious threat to buildings of heritage value belonging to the historic center of Natal, since they become vulnerable to abandonment, a fact that eventually results in the ruin of these objects. The rehabilitation of historic centers appears to be a beneficial solution for the city, since it addresses several urban problems, ranging from the housing crisis to the theme of sustainable development of cities. Therefore, the general objective of the work is to develop a proposal for the reuse of buildings of heritage value in the Historic Center of Natal/RN, specifically the former Antônio Barreto Dispensary building at Rua Padre João Manoel, number 520, based on the elaboration of an architectural preliminary project for an Musical and Audiovisual Education and Production Center. The specific objectives are defined as: analyzing the approaches to intervention in heritage, aiming to choose the most appropriate one to adopt in the proposal; understanding the challenges of reconciling comfort strategies with the conservation of historic buildings; and incorporating the principles of acoustic comfort in a building of heritage value to adapt it to its new use.
