Tese (Doutorado em Filosofia) - Centro de Ciências Humanas, Letras e Artes, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2022.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/52454The purpose of this study is to highlight the existence of an Anthropology of the Transcendentals in the work of Francisco Suárez, especially in the Disputationes Metaphysicae. The heart of the Doctrine of the Transcendentals is the convertibility among the properties of Being: Unity (unum), Truth (verum), and Goodness (bonum). Aristotle uses the term ἀντιστρέφει to express that there are general characteristics that are interchangeable. Philip the Chancellor, through the sentence Ens et Bonum convertuntur, inaugurates this doctrine in the 13th century. With Alexander of Hales and Thomas Aquinas, this doctrine takes inspiration from the human experience itself. Being chronologically situated in the Renaissance, Suarez has a great tendency to apply the convertibility of the transcendental to human life. Thus, we will observe how the Suarezian conceptualization of the individual as unum ens makes room for the conduction of the transcendentals into the anthropological and social realm. In order to make this application even more evident, we will highlight how this conceptualization is diffused in human language. Finally, we will understand what is the role of the Beauty in the thought of the Exceptional and Pious Doctor.
