The loss ratio, as an indicator, plays an essential role in assessing these factors, allowing the identification of any imbalance between the value of compensation and the value of premiums and the adjustment of new strategies. This study aims to analyze how the different characteristics of drivers (gender and age) and vehicles (car category, year of manufacture of the vehicle and area of circulation) influence the loss ratio in auto insurance in a comparative manner between the states of Rio Grande do Norte and São Paulo. The information on these characteristics was taken from the SUSEP database, which is composed of auto insurance policies, thus making it possible to calculate the loss ratio, average premium, average compensation and average relative frequency of claims.
