In the midst of the current political and economic situation that causes uncertainties to the operation of the IFES, this qualitative research used the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN) as the object of a case study to analyze the effectiveness of its process of strategic planning. Based on the assumption that there was a lack of integration in UFRN, the objective was to find ways to manage information in the planning process, to promote its integration and, consequently, to improve the utilization of its resources and reach institutional objectives. In order to achieve the objectives of this study, data collection, semistructured interviews, documentary analysis and bibliographic research were used as methods. The data collected were submitted to content analysis and revealed aspects of the strategic planning process that confirmed the lack of organizational integration. It was detected that the information flow has gaps and the products generated in the process (plans) do not add value to the institution.
