Method: this is an observational, analytical, cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of elderly patients treated at the Onofre Lopes University Hospital (HUOL) aged 60 years or older and with a clinical diagnosis of DM2. Sociodemographic and clinical-functional data were evaluated with these instruments: Timed Up and Go (TUG), Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) of 15 items, International Physical Activity Questionnaire (IPAQ) and phenotype of fragility. Chi-square and Mann Whitney tests were used for data analysis. Results: 113 individuals were included classified as pre-fragile (52,2%) and fragile (47,8%). BNAF was found in 79,6% of the sample. The variables most related to BNAF were education (p=0,02), social participation (p=0,005), insulin therapy (p=0,02), lower limb pain (p=0,03) and depressive symptoms (p=0,04). Significant differences were found between BNAF and age (p=0,04) and years of schooling (p=0,05). Conclusions: physical inactivity causes weakening of the elderly with DM2 and its relations are clear to understand the complications of both diseases.
