Arsenic is part of the environment and some foods. So, for humans, their harmful effects depend on the chemical form, where trivalent arsenicals are more toxic and inorganic forms are better absorbed by the body. The content of arsenic (As) consumed by man through food is mainly influenced by the amount of fish and seafood in his diet, which may contain levels ranging from 1 to more than 100 ppm (mg/kg) and in other foods based on fish can reach a few milligrams per kilo, predominantly in organic form. In view of this situation, this study aimed to determine the arsenic content in sharks using the silver diethyldithiocarbamate method and molecular absorption spectrophotometry. In our research, three samples were analyzed in duplicate and the levels expressed in mg / kg. Thus, the determination of the total arsenic content was carried out in samples of dog meat, acquired in the city of Natal / RN, to check if they are within the limits established by Brazilian legislation.
