The school, as a space for citizenship formation and socialization, needs to recognize the importance of these historical subjects and help to deconstruct prejudices and build a more inclusive and egalitarian society. In this conception, this work seeks to understand how the school promotes the appreciation of Afro-Brazilian identity and culture, highlighting initiatives and pedagogical practices that help to value ethnic identity. The methodology of this work is based on a qualitative approach that aims at a greater understanding of the data collected in a public educational institution that serves students from a quilombola community, located in the city of Portalegre-RN. This study used methods such as participant observation, document analysis and semi-structured interviews. The research showed that the School has implemented pedagogical initiatives that aim to value Afro-Brazilian culture, contributing to the construction of a more positive identity among black students.
