Jornal Nacional, a daily news program with more than 19 million viewers in Brazil, highlighted content related to the environment, including the fires and their repercussions in every one of its 27 editions broadcast during the month. This research revisited the program's trajectory of appeal over its five decades on air to observe how TV Globo's main news program has updated the standards for environmental coverage as the issue gained prominence in society, as well as looking into how the newsworthiness criteria is applied regarding the composition of television news editions. Through the technique of content analysis (CA), this dissertation investigates what narrative directions are conveyed by JN on the issue, and how the news gets adjusted to the concepts of environmental journalism. Conducting a qualitative and quantitative analysis, the information was systematized to point out the voices and the sub-themes most emphasized by Jornal Nacional in their environmental coverage, understanding how these choices editorially position its appeal before the concepts established for the practice of environmental journalism.
