Óleo lubrificante usado ou contaminado e resíduos associados: diagnóstico, estimativa e perspectivas de um ambiente sustentável. 2022. 61f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Engenharia de Petróleo) - Centro de Tecnologia, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2022.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/46182The oil industry is one of the segments that causes the most damage to the environment. The lubricating base oil, after fulfilling its role, loses its optimal properties and is contaminated with several toxic compounds, becoming a hazardous waste that can cause immeasurable environmental damage. This residue is called used or contaminated oil (OLUC). During the replacement of automotive lubricating oil, other solid waste is generated, such as plastic packaging for new lubricating oil and used oil filters, considered hazardous waste. For this reason, it is essential that the OLUC and the other residues receive a correct management and adequate destination. In this way, the recycling of OLUC, known as re-refining, is the most environmentally safe method for the final destination of this residue. This work aims to carry out a study about the management of these wastes (OLUC, packaging and filters) in order to investigate the applicability of current legislation in generating points in the city of Natal/RN. The methodology was based on the collection of information through the application of forms and on-site visits, as well as analysis of samples. The methodology was based on the collection of information through the application of forms and on-site visits carried out in six companies, as well as analysis of samples. The results demonstrate that the establishments visited adequately allocate the OLUC, with the collection of the residue for a re-refiner. However, in 83% of these companies, both packaging and used oil filters are not properly managed. Therefore, there is a need to implement actions that jointly raise awareness of companies and the population about the negative impacts that these residues generate to the environment and human health.
