Included individuals of both sexes, aged between 60 and 80 years. Subjects were evaluated for the presence of PAOD through ABI. A structured evaluation was performed, the SAH and DM were confirmed through medical diagnosis and medication use. The collections were carried out at FACISA / UFRN. 175 elderly were recruited for the initial phase. The second phase of the study consisted of 15 individuals with PAD and 33 healthy subjects. The mean age of the PAD group was 70.31 ± 4.66 years, and without PAD, 67.8 ± 5.2 years, p> 0.05. The group without PAOD presented significantly higher ITB when compared to the group with PAOD in both MMII. The prevalence of DM in the PAOD group was 40% (n = 6) whereas in the group without PAOD it was 27.27% (n = 9). The SAH was present in 73.33% (n = 11) of the individuals with PAOD. n the group with PAD, 53.33% were sedentary. When comparing the degree of arterial obstruction between individuals with PAD with and without DM, it was observed that the group with DM had an average ABI lower than the group without DM (0.68 ± 0.13 vs. 0.76 ± 1.14; respectively, p> 0.05). The prevalence of PAD in the elderly in the city of Santa Cruz-RN was 17.2%, of which 40% had a diagnosis of DM.
