Análise de variantes genéticas população-específica associadas ao risco de covid-19. Orientador: Leonardo Capistrano. 2024. 53f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Biomedicina), Centro de Biociências, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2024.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/59541This study investigates the complexity and diversity of genetic variants and genes associated with COVID-19 using human pangenome data and genome-wide association studies (GWAS). The aim is to identify the distribution of genetic variants among different populations and phenotypes: severe cases, hospitalized cases, and COVID-19 positive. The methodology relies on GWAS data from American, African, and East Asian populations, emphasizing the depth and scope of the pangenome in characterizing genetic diversity among the studied populations. The results highlight the importance of population-specific genetic variants involved in susceptibility, severity, and response to COVID-19, including those associated with loci previously identified in various studies, as well as genes potentially involved in immunological processes affecting the disease response. Variants found in this study suggest the need for diverse approaches to understanding the genetics of COVID-19, indicating significant differences in susceptibility and response to infection among different populations. The limitations of this study include the predominance of software developed for GWAS, highlighting the need for new bioinformatics tools for pangenomic data analysis, insufficient data for some populations, and limitations in data submission to web tools. Finally, this study underscores the importance of a broad and diverse genomic approach to understanding the genetic complexity of COVID-19, contributing to personalized medicine and more effective public health strategies.Attribution 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/br/COVID-19PangenomaDiversidade genéticaGWASVariantes genéticasAnálise de variantes genéticas população-específica associadas ao risco de covid-19Analysis of population-specific genetic variants associated with covid-19 riskbachelorThesisCNPQ::CIENCIAS BIOLOGICAS
