Materials and methods: This study is characterized as being cross-sectional and population-based, with the elderly population aged 60 years or older as the unit of study. The data from the latest Brazilian National Health Survey (PNS) was used in this study. The number of elderly people analyzed was 43,554. In the data analysis, the Chi-square test was initially employed. Subsequently, adjusted prevalence ratios were obtained through a multivariate analysis of the Poisson multiple regression type. Results: The prevalence of older adults with diabetes was 20.6%, while the prevalence of totally edentulous older adults was 32%. Total edentulism in older adults, according to multivariate analysis, was associated with female older adults (p<0.001), older age (p<0.001), illiteracy (p<0.001), those without health insurance (p<0.001), those without dental insurance (p<0.001), and those with a diagnosis of diabetes (p=0.009). Conclusion: It is concluded that total bimaxillary tooth loss in older adults was associated with worse socioeconomic conditions. In addition, older adults with a diagnosis of diabetes were associated with a higher chance of losing all their teeth.Attribution 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/br/IdososDiabetesEdentulismoAssociação da diabetes mellitus no edentulismo total de idososbachelorThesisCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ODONTOLOGIA
