A qualitative approach was chosen, using the methodology guided by the framework of the Collective Subject Discourse (DSC), with the sample consisting of students between the 4th and 9th levels who have taken the elective Libras course. Data collection took place between October and December 2023, at the Faculty of Health Sciences of Trairi (FACISA), Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN). The collected data were analyzed, which resulted in four key discourses and fundamental themes that shape the conceptions of deafness in academic and professional contexts. The findings revealed that the students' engagement in discussions about deafness, especially in the context of the elective Brazilian Sign Language (LIBRAS) course, promoted the development of their subjective conceptions about deafness. These insights had a positive impact on both the students' academic education and their future professional nursing care for the deaf community, providing more effective and sensitive care to the needs of this population.
