The findings indicate that studies on manga come predominantly from the humanities, particularly in the fields of literature and history, implying that manga is often approached from a literary, linguistic, cultural or historical perspective. The analysis of the documents revealed that the theses and dissertations approach the subject of manga in three different ways: using works of manga literature as the primary objects of study; examining the phenomenon of manga itself; or using manga as a tool for analyzing other cultural or social phenomena, often with a secondary role in the research. It also shows that research is concentrated mainly in the south-east and south, and to a lesser extent in the north-east of the country, while showing the absence of research in the other regions of the country.
