However, explant disinfestation remains a critical step due to its susceptibility to microbial contamination and phenolic oxidation. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of different disinfestation protocols using calcium hypochlorite and ethyl alcohol for the asepsis of nodal segments of N. ventrata. Four distinct treatments were tested under a completely randomized design, totaling 60 explants. The analyzed variables were: presence of contamination, occurrence of phenolic oxidation, and shoot formation. The results indicated that none of the treatments showed statistically superior performance in eliminating contaminants or promoting regeneration. However, treatment T2 (2% calcium hypochlorite for 30 minutes) stood out by combining a lower contamination rate with the absence of oxidation in the formed shoots. Overall, the low regeneration rates and the combined occurrence of contamination and tissue darkening indicate the need for adjustments to the tested protocols, with particular attention to the inclusion of antioxidant substances and the optimization of exposure time to disinfecting agents.
