In particular, the bracing panels stress undergoes to substantial changes under the conditions of this new design practice which uses reinforced concrete transition structures that may be total, when the masonry walls are totally interrupted in the ground floor, or partial, when that interruption does not occur on all walls. From this perspective, the present study deals with the magnitude of the effects of 2nd overall order of structural masonry buildings executed on total or partial transition structures of reinforced concrete. The analysis was based on two computational models: the three-dimensional frame model, proposed by Nascimento Neto (1999), which represents the bracing system by means of a three-dimensional frame consisting of flexible vertical bars and rigid horizontal bars; and the equivalent frame model, proposed by Nascimento Neto (2014), which simulates the structural walls by an equivalent frame consisting of both horizontal and vertical flexible bars, representing the internal distribution of the wall stiffness. From these basic models, three-dimensional models of Brazilian typically designed typologies of structural masonry buildings were performed, varying the walls’ layout as well as the existence or not of transition structures. The analysis consisted on the evaluation of the horizontal force between the bracing panels, the distribution of the normal and shear stresses at the base of the walls located immediately above the transition beams, the internal stresses in the transition beams, as well as the magnitude of the parameter γ_z for the various geometrical conditions of the bracing system. Considering the obtained results, it is possible to affirm that the use of transitional structures plays a fundamental role in the overall stability of structural masonry buildings because they are arranged at the base of the building, in addition to that, the stiffness distribution of the bracing panels is substantially altered by them, and, consequently, so do the behavior and intensity of the stresses on both the walls and the transition beams.openAccessAlvenaria estruturalefeitos de 2ª ordem globalPórtico tridimensionalPórtico equivalentePainéis de contraventamentoModelagem computacionalAvaliação dos efeitos de 2ª ordem global em edifícios de alvenaria estruturalEvaluation of global second order effects in structural masonry buildingsbachelorThesisCNPQ::ENGENHARIAS::ENGENHARIA CIVIL::ESTRUTURAS
