A influência da família na autonomia e participação do cuidado do sujeito diagnosticado com diabetes mellitus. 2020. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Enfermagem) - Faculdade de Ciências da Saúde do Trairi, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Santa Cruz, 2020.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/38639The diagnosis of Diabetes Mellitus requires participation in treatment, and changes in the lives of those who live with it, and affects not only the subject, but also his family. This study aimed to understand the family's influence on the autonomy and participation of the care of the subject diagnosed with type 2 diabetes mellitus. It is a participatory field research, supported by the theory of reflexivity and with a qualitative approach. In the survey, sixteen subjects who live with diabetes participated in meetings of a health promotion group. They participated in eight meetings for the production of data, in a closed type group, between the months of May and August of the year 2017, subsequently, three more meetings were held to expand the participation of the subjects in the narratives built in the group and validation of the given by the participating subjects, totaling eleven meetings. The results obtained showed that the factors that influence adherence to treatment are multifactorial and that they are not always directly associated with the syndrome, but also with the way people live and relate to others. From the thematic axes that were related to the family approach, the following categories emerged for this study: Diabetes as a family "inheritance"; Difficulties to adapt to the new lifestyle; The need for family support and family repression as a hindrance to the Diabetes Mellitus process. Among the conclusions of the study, it is noteworthy that the group provided an open climate for free expression of ideas and feelings, allowing participants to report their experiences, expressing their feelings and seeking their autonomy, the support of the family of the person living with diabetes mellitus is essential in this process. However, it was found that the participants identify negative aspects in the zeal that the family members assume in relation to the treatment.
