The first challenge was to consider the design of this machine within an interdisciplinary vision based on the systems engineering methodology. Accordingly, the equipment had to be treated as a complex system carrying a concrete representation through an artificial creation technique within the area of mechanical engineering, but within a systemic view. Work has been done to investigate descriptive functions of the behavior of the system by studying some relationships between several desirable inputs and outputs. For example, the amount of licuri coconuts fed into the machine (input) versus the amount of undamaged nuts extracted afterwards (output). The application of CAD technology as a modifier of the systems engineering methodology was quite satisfactory at all project levels. As the main outcome, it was obtained a manufacturing prototype of the licuri coconut’s shell breaking machine. Finally, after describing the details of the foundations, principles and directions of the project it is also carried out a discussion on some important matters.
