The definition of modernity used in the work was proposed by Charles Baudelaire in an essay called “The Painter of Modern Life” (2006), also used to situate the French poet in this context. To situate Kalina Paiva, Tarcísio Gurgel's theory in his book “Belle Époque na esquina” (2009) was used. The poems by Baudelaire analyzed in the work were taken from the books “O Spleen de Paris: pequeno poemas em prosa” (2020) and “As flores do mal” (2006). The poems by Kalina analyzed in this work were taken from the books “Gatilhos poéticos” (2022) and “Cantigas de amor e guerra” (2023). The work focused on two specific aspects of modernity: transience and melancholy. To analyze these aspects, Benjamin's essay “Paris: capital of the 19th century” (1985) and Moraes' essay “Baudelaire and the phantasmagoria of the end - what new beginning?” (2017) were used.
