Natal, RN, 2019.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/43864INTRODUCTION: Cardiovascular diseases (CVD) are the main cause of death and comorbidities in the world, affecting mainly the elderly population. OBJECTIVE: To characterize the distribution of hospital admissions of CVD in Brazil, classified by ICD-10 between 2008 and 2017. METHODS: A longitudinal descriptive study, addressing the incidence of hospital admissions caused by CVD in Brazil. Data were collected by the Hospital Information System of the Unified Health System (SIH / SUS), Department of Unique Health Informatics (DATASUS), covering the period from 2008 to 2017, being analyzed by region, sex and age group. RESULTS: The most prevalent CVD in hospital admissions are as ischemic heart and cerebrovascular diseases, with the southeast region being the largest, followed by the northeast and south. Reaching mainly the age between 50 and 79 years. It was also observed a decline of the temporal expansion after the year of 2011 in the hospitalizations recorded. A mortality rate of 7.82 was observed. CONCLUSION: As CVD mainly affects individuals between 50 and 79 years of age, with repercussions on the greater frequency of hospital admissions. Suggesting that countries may be related to a demographic transition that occurs in the country.
