Dissertação (Mestrado em Psicobiologia) - Centro de Biociências, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2023.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/52318In the present work, two themes were studied and related - as far as possible: the cooperation between children and the influence of the use of gestures in the resolution of a visuospatial activity. Cooperation is a behavior that benefits others and is characterized by an immediate decrease in the aptitude of those who practice it. The expression of cooperation may vary according to sociodemographic characteristics, such as social class and gender, or even according to the presence of a collaborative activity before the division of resources. At the same time, according to the Information Packaging Hypothesis, more gestures are used when there is a greater demand for conceptualization during a cognitive activity and these gestures help to store information. The present thesis proposes to investigate factors that influence cooperation in children and to understand the role of gestures in establishing visuospatial information in collaborative interactions. To achieve these goals, videos of children sharing after a collaborative task were analyzed. The activity involved visuospatial processes and the gestures that occur after the explanation of two parts of this task were analyzed, the second had more information than the first. To analyze the data obtained, we used Kruskal-Wallis tests, with post hoc analysis using Dunn's test, with Holm correction for p values, Wilcoxon tests, multiple regression for data with Poisson distribution (counting), binomial regression logistic, Mann-Whitney tests and correlation tests. The analysis was performed in RStudio, R version 4.0.4 (R Core Team, 2021) and we considered significant results when p < 0.05. Regarding the gain and sharing of resources, only age was a relevant factor to influence them, some factors may be behind this result, such as the nature of the experiment, the lack of explicitness of inequality and the difficulties in the task due to age. In addition, the gestures were not more expressed when the task showed greater cognitive demand, which can be explained by the fact that the task was not accompanied by mandatory verbalization of what was understood.
