2020. 23f. The innate immune system is impaired by Vitamin D deficiency, thus predisposing patients infected with viral infections, such as Covid-19. Vitamin D supplementation appears as an adjuvant alternative in the treatment of Covid-19. Thus, in this review, 764 articles were initially analyzed in the databases: PubMed and Science direct, during the research the descriptors were used: “Covid-19” AND “Vitamin D supplementation”. After evaluating the titles, 151 articles were analyzed and then the abstracts and full text of the articles, leaving 3 studies. The studies differed in relation to dose, type of formulation and number of patients, however, all presented favorable outcomes in patients who were supplemented with vitamin D, such as a shorter ICU stay for patients infected with Covid-19. The revised included papers showed evidence that vitamin D can be an effective therapy as an adjunct to the treatment of Covid-19, despite the limitations presented in each study.
