O uso da técnica de triploidia como uma alternativa para solucionar o problema da superpopulação de tilápia do nilo (Oreochromis niloticus) em viveiros escavado. 2022. 18 f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Engenharia de Aquicultura) – Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2022.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/46264The present work aimed to carry out a review of the use of the triploid technique as an alternative to solve the problem of Nile tilapia overpopulation in excavated ponds. Currently, the most used technique to avoid Nile tilapia overpopulation is masculinization through the hormone methyltestoterone, but this technique is not capable of producing 100% of male fish, allowing for unwanted reproduction in the nursery. The hormone methyltestoterone is given to fingerlings orally through its mixture in the ration intended for feeding the fish. After 50 hours of the last ingestion of this ration, the hormone is eliminated from the fish's body. Every methyltestoterone hormone used in masculinization ends up in the water and sediment of the pond. If the water containing the hormone is released into the environment without treatment, it can cause negative changes, such as interfering with the reproduction of fish and invertebrates. The triploidy technique does not use chemical substances in its process, in this technique only the water is heated or cooled to cause a thermal shock and generate a triploidy fish. In Nile tilapia, it is possible to produce triploids with 100% efficiency, starting the thermal shock 7 minutes after fertilization with a water temperature of 9 0c and with a shock duration of 30 minutes. In Brazil, there are few studies on the use of triplodia in Nile tilapia, so it is important to carry out research with this bias in this species of fish, as it is currently the most cultivated in the country. Furthermore, the triploidy technique does not cause negative harm to the environment.
