Eficácia da aromaterapia com óleo de Lavandula angustifolia na dor pós-operatória de cirurgia cardíaca: ensaio clínico randomizado. Orientador: Dr. Rodrigo Assis Neves Dantas. 2023. 95f. Dissertação (Mestrado em Enfermagem) - Centro de Ciências da Saúde, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2023.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/57524The use of essential oils, whether inhaled, topical or oral, extracted from plants, has been the subject of studies to control pain, anxiety, sleep disturbances and nausea. Pain in the postoperative period of heart surgery is common due to sternotomy and device placement and, when poorly controlled, can lead to hemodynamic consequences and pulmonary complications. Therefore, timely and adequate pain relief leads to a reduction in these complications and the length of hospital stay, as well as increased patient satisfaction. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness of inhalation with Lavandula angustifolia essential oil in relieving pain in the immediate postoperative period in patients undergoing cardiac surgery. This is a randomized, controlled, single-blind clinical trial that was carried out in the cardiac intensive care unit (ICU) of a hospital in Rio Grande do Norte. The sample group consisted of 52 patients in the immediate postoperative period of cardiac surgery, who were divided equally into the Control Group (CG) and the Experimental Group (EG). The control group received standard care and the application of a ceramic diffuser collar without essential oil. The EG, on the other hand, received the intervention of inhalation with pure Lavandula angustifolia essential oil, with one drop of the oil in a ceramic diffuser collar at 15-20 cm from the patient's nose, in order to verify its effectiveness in relieving pain. The principal investigator was responsible for randomization, applying the intervention and collecting and processing the data. This project was approved by the Research Ethics Committee of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte and approved under registration 6.035.406 and CAAE: 65928122.1.0000.5537 and registered in the Brazilian Clinical Trial Registry (RBR75mvd9k). In this study, there was no statistical difference when comparing the groups studied (p<0.05), revealing homogeneity between the groups. Pain was reported by 53.85% of all patients in the study, with the sternotomy being the most painful site. The Experimental Group showed a statistical difference in pain relief, relaxation and sleep compared to the Control Group. As for vital signs, there was a decrease in mean arterial pressure and respiratory rate in the experimental group. Lavandula angustifolia showed efficacy in pain relief, sleep onset and relaxation, proving to be a low-cost and easy-to-use tool that the nursing team can use in their assistance and thus ensure humanized and quality care.Acesso AbertoCirurgia cardíacaÓleo essencialEnfermagemDorEficácia da aromaterapia com óleo de Lavandula angustifolia na dor pós-operatória de cirurgia cardíaca: ensaio clínico randomizadoEffectiveness of aromatherapy with lavender oil angustifolia in post-operative cardic surgery pain: randomized clinical trialmasterThesisCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE::ENFERMAGEM
