From this, characterizing the performance of individuals with neurodevelopmental disorders in the narrative discourse skill can provide important information for the differential diagnosis between these conditions, since the characteristics are similar. The objective of this study is to investigate the characteristics of oral and written narrative discourse in different groups of schoolchildren, children and adolescents, with neurodevelopmental disorders and to analyze possible differences between them. METHODS: Cross-sectional quantitative and qualitative study, in which 44 children and adolescents aged 6 to 17 years participated, divided by the diagnoses of Dyslexia, Intellectual Development Disorder, Autism Spectrum Disorder and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, in the oral and written narrative discourse tasks. RESULTS: The four groups of students with developmental disorders performed below expectations for the normative test data and without significant differences between the groups. CONCLUSION: Students with neurodevelopmental disorders have impairments in oral and written narrative discourse when compared to typical development and present similarities in performance, which can confuse diagnoses considering only these skills. Thus, further studies may allow for a deeper understanding of the relationships between these skills and other skills to aid in the differential speech-language diagnosisAttribution-NoDerivs 3.0 Brazilhttp://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nd/3.0/br/DiscursoLinguagemEscritaTranstorno do neurodesenvolvimentoFonoaudiologiaSpeechLanguageWritingNeurodevelopmental disorderSpeech therapyDiscurso narrativo oral e escrito de crianças e adolescentes com diferentes transtornos do neurodesenvolvimentoOral and written narrative discourse of children and adolescents with different neurodevelopmental disordersbachelorThesisCNPQ::CIENCIAS DA SAUDE
