In the Brazilian context, wind energy production has gained relevance driven by public policies, such as the Alternative Energy Sources Incentive Program (PROINFA). These policies facilitated the installation of wind farms in Lagoa Nova, highlighting the municipality due to its favorable wind conditions. However, the coexistence between traditional agropastoral practices and new wind energy production activities has significantly altered the use and logic of the territory. Lagoa Nova found itself transformed by the demands and guidelines of large wind farms, which prioritize capital over local needs. As a result, local communities face negative impacts, including environmental degradation and loss of access to their land.
