The evolution of the coastal environment of Rio Grande do Norte was taken as the target of this undergraduate thesis. This subject is part of the exhibition "E o Mar Virou Sertão". An interdisciplinary team was formed to carry out the exhibition. To define the preliminary design ideas, the development of concepts as well the confirmation of the proposed solutions the team will be always consulted on. To achieve the proposed result, we used the methodological instruments employed in the field of exhibition design, a term that, in this work, was freely translated as "design de mostra". The processes related to the evolution of the Potiguar coast are complex phenomena that occurred over a very long time span. To make the exhibition viable, there is a curatorial plan and the conceptualization of the exhibition is already being developed by an interdisciplinary team. But it is the designer's responsibility to seek ways to clearly communicate the variety of exhibition themes to visitors. To accomplish this purpose: interviews together with the curator of the exhibition were carried out; a documentary analysis of the exhibition proposal was performed; a literature about the phenomena that gave rise to origin on the coast of the State of Rio Grande do Norte was reviewed; and, finally, a study on the discipline of Exhibition Design and a very brief historical overview about the architectural history of museums was conducted.
