2023. 21f. Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Engenharia Civil) - Departamento de Engenharia Civil e Ambiental, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte. 2023https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/53777The coastal region of Brazil holds great importance for the country's economy, primarily due to its tourism appeal and high population density in the capital cities. There is a need for protection in many areas along the coastline where geosynthetics can be employed. Like any polymeric material, they are prone to degradation due to weathering and exposure to UV radiation. This study presents a comparison of the degradation of a polypropylene geotextile, assessed through tensile strength, among samples with different exposure times in the coastal environment of Natal-RN. Different exposure guidelines were followed, being guided by ASTM D5970 (2016) and ASTM D1435 (2013) standards. The exposure time was 493 days, which resulted in an average strength loss of 16.68 kN/m. There was variation depending on the applied exposure method. The data obtained in this study are crucial for the design and determination of solutions that utilize geosynthetics in coastal engineering projects.
