Trabalho de Conclusão de Curso (Graduação em Fisioterapia) - Departamento de Fisioterapia, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Norte, Natal, 2024.https://repositorio.ufrn.br/handle/123456789/61026Background: Non-specific chronic neck pain (NSCNP) is a prevalent and significant public health problem defined by persistent neck pain lasting more than 12 weeks without a primary etiology. Prolonged pain duration may influence disability and hinder rehabilitation, but there are gaps in the literature regarding the connection between pain duration and disability in people with chronic pain. Objective: To investigate the connection between pain duration and neck disability index in people with NSCNP. Methods: This cross-sectional study, conducted between July 2023 and June 2024, included 76 participants. Eligible participants were adults of both sexes, aged 18-50 years, with a primary complaint of non-specific neck pain lasting at least 12 weeks and a minimum pain score of three on the Numerical Pain Rating Scale. Participants completed an online questionnaire consisting of three sections: anthropometric and demographic data, neck pain intensity as assessed by the Numerical Pain Rating Scale, and neck disability as assessed by the Neck Disability Index. Results: No significant correlation was found between pain duration and neck disability scores (r =-0.183; p = 0.114). Conclusions: The study suggests that pain duration does not directly influence neck disability levels in individuals with NSCNP. It highlights the importance of assessing other psychosocial factors in clinical practice and prioritizing strategies that promote patient functionality rather than focusing solely on pain.
