Consequently, an Unconstitutional State of Affairs (ECI) is present, which was expressly recognized by the Federal Supreme Court, in the Claim of NonCompliance with Fundamental Precept (ADPF) nº 347. The situation is similar in all units of the federation, including the State of Rio Grande do Norte. On the other hand, there is an institution called Association for the Protection and Support of Convicts (APAC), which acting as a partner agency of Justice, develops the fulfillment of the sentence in a dignified manner, ensuring compliance with national legislation. Thus, this research is developed based on the following question: what is the social impact of APAC´s and how can they be a promising alternative to the prisons' Unconstitutional State of Affairs in Rio Grande do Norte? Therefore, the study seeks to recognize the existence of an ECI in the prisons of the mentioned State, analyze the way in which APAC´s operate and their potential against this ECI. It also aims to understand the methodology of these institutions, to investigate the repercussion of the work carried out there on the conduct of its prisoners and its socioeconomic effects. The discussion of this topic is very relevant, due to the high rate of violence in the country, intrinsically linked to the brazilian prison environment and the high levels of recidivism observed.
