Recognizing costume design as an indispensable visual language for theater, based on a theoretical and practical pedagogical experience of sketching, developed in high school in arts/theater classes at a state school called “Escola Estadual Professor Luis Antônio” located in Natal/RN. This paper aims to exemplify costume teaching methodologies within classrooms in accordance with BNCC (Common Core State Standards-CCSS) Arts/Theater, by developing classes that provide an investigation and identification of the social codes present in costumes and highlighting the importance of understanding this art beyond its aesthetic character.
